Lemon Bioflavonoids

  • Source: Lemon Fruits
  • Botanical Name: Citrus Limonium / Citrus limon (Linn.)
  • Appearance: Free flowing brownish powder
  • Applications: Pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals and beverages for fortifications.

Lemon bioflavonoids are concentrated in the pericarp (the rind) which contains a high concentration of minor flavonoid eriocitrin. Eriocitrin is found in low concentrations in other citrus fruits but found only in lemon-based flavonoids. Applications include dilation(widening) of both capillaries and small arteries, allowing increased blood flow. This also increases capillary permeability, allowing chemicals to diffuse through the capillary wall. This pharmacological property makes eriocitrin accountable to reduction of mm hydrops or fluid accumulation.
